The Sabot Background

The Sabot originated in the early 1900's in Norway. Hence the name Sabot, which is derived from Scandinavian wooden shoe somewhat shaped similarly. In 1939,Charles Macgregor of New York adapted a pram style rowing dingy into a sailing dinghy that the Sabots have followed into basic design.

With the advent of newer materials ,the Sabot has evolved into a premier classic modern sailboat and a competitive racing sailing dinghy that is hugely popular up and down the California coast.  To this day it is in both premier yacht clubs, to the small community based sailing clubs. The Sabot is hugely popular because its easy to learn to sail and its hard to capsize because of a low capsize rate.
